The problem reads:
In 1999, cigarette consumption in the U.S.was 125 packs per capita. This rate of consumption was 5/8ths of what it was in 1999. Find the rate of comsumption.
Could someone show me how to work this through? I know's rate times something, but after that,I go loopy!

The rate of consumption you are looking for is 5/8 of what it was in 1999. Since it was 125 packs per capital, that means that what you are looking for is = = 78 1/8 pack per capita.
