Working together, it takes two different sized hoses 25 minutes to fill a small swimming pool.
Together they fill in 25 minutes
They fill 1/25 of the pool in 1 min
larger hose takes 35 minutes to fill the pool by itself,
It fills 1/35 of the pool in 1 minute
let smaller hose x minutes alone to fill the pool
it fills 1/x of the pool in 1 minute
=
1/x +1/35 =1/25
1/x = 1/25 -1/35
1/x = 10/875
x= 87.5 minutes
how long will it take the smaller hose on its own?
