Add 44 to both sides.


(u-10)^2 = 44.


Take the square root from both sides


u - 10 = +/- .


Add 10 to both sides.


u = 10 +/- 


u = 10 +/- .


Thus you just have the formula for two roots.


This formula is the same as the quadratic formula.
