Question 1090636: In a certain CPU, a floating point adder unit uses a total of 40 percent of the execution time. If the floating point adder unit is replaced with a new unit whose speed is ten times faster than the original unit, approximately how many times faster is the new CPU than the original one? Here, there is no modification in the instruction set of the new CPU.
Here are the choices:
a) 1.25 b) 1.40 c) 1.56 d) 2.17
I am really confused of getting the correct answer.

.
Let say, the computer works in total 100 seconds.

Of them, 40 seconds takes the floating point adder.

After replacing, the new floating point adder takes only 4 seconds to perform the same its work.

So, the modified computer performs the same work in 60+4 = 64 seconds now.

In how many times faster? - In = 1.56 times.

Answer. In 1.56 times faster.
