Question 1073601: In one senior class, 1/3 of the students are honor students. Of these honor students 2/7 are varsity athletes, If there are four athletes in the class, how many students are there in the class?
Answer by htmentor(1343)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let S = the total number of students
So we have S/3 = H [honor students]
(2/7)H = 4
But H = S/3, so we can write (2/7)(1/3)S = 4, or S = 84/2 -> S = 42 students
Check: (1/3)*42 = 14 (2/7)*14 = 4
