Question 1044195: You are the gardener hired by a landscape architect. In digging a garden. You work twice as fast as your assistant. Together, you can finish the job in 4hours. You need to find out how long it can finish the job if each of you works alone. To this first you have to determine the expressions that represents the job completed based on your individual work rates. You have to fill the table below

I will do this without the table.
It takes you x hours to do this
in 1 hour, you do 1/x of the garden
It takes your assistant 2x hours to do it
in 1 hour, the assistant does 1/2x of the garden
In 1 hour, you do 1/4 of the garden together.
(1/x)+(1/2x)=1/4
multiply by common denominator of 4x
4+2=x
x=6 hours, your time
2x=12 hours, the assistant's time
Two-thirds of the work is done by you; one-third by your assistant
