A field has two lengths and two widths.
L=12 2/5 and twice that is 24 and 4/5 yards
W=9 3/8 and twice that is 18 6/8 yards
There are different ways to add them, but I like to add the 24 and 18 to get 42 yards and then add the fractions 4/5 and 3/4 (reduced).
the common denominator is 20, and 4/5=16/20, whereas 3/4=(15/20)
They make (31/20, which is 1 (11/20) yards
Remembering the 42 above, the answer is 42 + 1 (11/20)=43 (11/20) yards.
