1.How many inmates are needed to finish washing 600 dishes in an hour if it takes three inmates to wash five dishes within a minute?
Since we are dealing minutes here, change it: 600/60 = 10 dishes per min
3 inmates wash 5 per min
therefore twice as many
6 inmates wash 10 per min which is 600 per hr

2. Six inmates can sort 1,221 laundry items in one and a half hours.
What is the average number of laundry items that an inmate can sort in five minutes?
Change 1.5 hrs to min: 1.5(60) = 90 min
Find how many 5 min intervals in 90 min: 90/5 = 18, 5 min intervals
Find how many items sorted in each 5 min interval by 6 inmates: 1221/18 ~ 68
Find how many each inmate can sort in 5 min: 68/6 ~ 11.3 items

If it takes four inmates 70 hours to teach one dog a full course,
how many inmates will be needed to train a dozen dogs completely in 245 hours?
Find how many man-hrs required per dog: 4 * 70 = 280 man hrs
Find how many man-hrs required for 12 dogs: 12 * 280 = 3360 man hrs
let m = no. of inmates required to do this in 245 hr
245m = 3360
m = 3360/245
m = 13.7 ~ 14 inmates required to do this
