Question 330949: Let me preface this question with a MEA CULPA as I do not know how to enter the square root sign via the keyboard.
question: the sq. root of (x+2)(x-6) = x-5;
my answer: I squared both sides of equation; x^2 - 4x -12 = x^2 -10x + 25;
solved for x; x = 37/6 (might that be correct?)
Thanks for any and all help.

Question 331206: Hello, I would like to know, what is ?
Is it or ? Or is my answer completely off? I'd like to see the answer with the radical sign still in it. So, please don't simplify it down to the decimal. I can do that myself.
I'm also new to the formula plotting system, sorry if I get things wrong!
Thanks a bunch!!

Question 333258: 1. Many people know that the weight of an object varies on different planets, but did you know that the weight of an object on Earth also varies according to the elevation of the object? In particular, the weight of an object follows this equation: w=Cr^-2, where C is a constant, w is the weight, and r is the distance that the object is from the center of Earth.
a. Solve the equation w=Cr^-2 for r.
b. Solve the equation w=Cr-2 for C.
c. Suppose that an object weighs 10 pounds when it is 100 miles from the center of the earth. Find the value of C? Show your work.
d. Use the value of C you found in 1c (above) to determine how much the object would weigh in Imaginary Village which is 200 miles from the center of the earth. Show your work. (3 points)
2. The equation gives the distance, D, in miles that a person can see to the horizon from a height, h, in miles.
a. Solve this equation for h.
b. Imaginary Mountain has an elevation of 9 miles. How far, to the nearest tenth of a mile, can you see to the horizon from the top of Imaginary Mountain? Explain how you arrived at this answer.
