Question 190041: I need your help solving a radical word problem. I was given the following formula to use for this question:
W=91.4-(10.5 + 6.7^v-.045v)(457-5t)/110
The wind chill temperature is "W" (how cold the air feels). The temperature is "t" and the velocity is "v". I was asked the following question:
"Who will feel colder, a person in Minneapolis at 10 degrees F with a 15mph wind or a person in Chicago at 20 degrees F with a 25mph wind."
This is how I began to work it:
91.4-(10.5 + 6.7^15-6.75)(457-50)
91.4-(17.2 * ^8.25)(407)
Then I got lost. Can you help me with this?

Question 190314This question is from textbook Introductory and Intermediate Algebra
: Hi, I just want to know if I did the right thing on my homework.Please help me.
1) Find the domain of each square root of function. Then use the domain to graph the radical function.The graphs are labeled (a) through (f) and are shown in [-10,10,1] by [-10,10,1] viewing rectangles.]
f(x)= square root of 8-2x
Solution:
8-2x <=(less than or equal to) 0
-2x <= -8
x<= 4
The domain of f is{x\x<=4) or (-infinity, 4}

2)Multiply & simplify. Assume that all variables in a radicand represent positive real numbers and no radicands involve negative quantities raised to even powers.
sqrt of 5xy multiply by sqrt of 10xy^2
Sol'n:
=sqrt of 5xy.10xy^2
=sqrt of 50x^2y^3
=sqrt of 25x^2y^2 x sqrt of 2y
=5xy sqrt of 2y
3)Add or subtract as indicated. You will need to simplify terms to identify the like radicals,
5 sqrt of 12 + sqrt of 75
Sol'n:
=5sqrt of 4x3 + sqrt of 25x3
=5 x 2 x sqrt of 3 + 5sqrt of 3
=10sqrt of 3 + 5 sqrt of 3
=(10+5)sqrt of 3
= 15sqrt of 3

Please let me know my mistakes...Thanks a lot in advance.

Question 191349: The Pythagorean Theorem
C² = A² + B²
Leg A = 5 Hypotenuse = 11 Leg B = ?
This was an example on a work sheet my teacher gave us for practice.
They filled in the numbers into the formula and simplified the problem.
11² = 5² + B²
121 = 25 + B² * minus 25 from both sides.
96 = B²
The third step is to take the principal square root.
√96 = √ B²
√96 = B
4√6 = B Add back in original problem.
*I got 9.79 but they gave the answers as 4√6. So my question is how did they get the radical 4√6? My teacher does not want us to give answers in decimal form, but I can’t figure out how they got the radical number.
