Question 146097: (x-6x sq root x)=0 Solve for x
In response to an inquiry -I was told to "use the conjugate". After yet another inquiry, I was given:
(x-6x sq root x)(x+6x sq root x)=0(x+6x sq root x)
= x squared -36xsquaredx and told to solve by factoring it out. I understand the conjugate part (kind of) but I've never seen -36xsquaredx! How do I factor this out?
By the way, I know the answer is {0,1/36} and I still can't figure it out.
This is an online course. I have searched the book and cannot find a sample of this problem anywhere.

Question 146186This question is from textbook Elementary Algebra
: Thank you for allowing me to ask a question. My instructions say:
Simplify
What I've tried:
I broke 4 square root 8 down to 4 square root 2 times 2 times 2,
multiplied 6 over the square root 2 by square root 2 over square root 2,
this gave me 8 square root 2 minus 2 times 3 square root 2 over 2,
which I then croseed out the 2 over 2 and am left with 8 square root 2 minus 3 square root 2.
I believe my answer is 5 square root 2.
Thanks for any input!!This question is from textbook Elementary Algebra

Question 146301: The expression (Sqrt of x + Sqrt of y)^2 is not equal to x+y for every nonnegative x and y.
1. Why is this?
2. How do I find a value of x and y for which this is true, that is (sqrt of x + sqrt of y)^2 = x + y. (Also, what is this value?)
Thank you for your time and help with this question, I hope it is clear enough to understand.)
This question is not from a text book, it is from a worksheet.

Question 146485: Invisible numbers...Perform indicated operation. Write results in the form of a+bi
6 / 5-2i
Six divided by five minus 2i.
I started this problem by mutiplying the numerator and the denominator by five minus 2i. I obtained the answer of 30 -12i for the numerator...and I do not know what to do after that.
Thanks!

Question 146486: Use quotient rule to divide and simplify.
Sqrt (128x^9) / sqrt (2x)
Sqrt of 128x^9 divided by sqrt of 2x.
I solved the problem but I am unsure how to write the solution. The sqrt of 128x^9 = 8x^4..... and the sqrt of 2x = 2x. I do not know how to write the solution.
Thanks!

Question 146483: Rationalize the numerator and simplify.
5 sqrt (x) / sqrt (7y)
Five sqrt of x divided by sqrt of 7y.
I started this problem by mutiplying the numerator of 5 sqrt (x) to the numerator and the denom. Not sure what to do after that.
Thanks!

Question 146482: Rationalize the denominator and simplify.
3 / sqrt (x+5)
Three divided by sqrt of x plus five.
I started this problem by multiplying the denominator of Sqrt (x+5) by the numerator and the denominator. Not sure where to go after that..not even sure how to mutiply the sqrt and 3.
Thanks!

Question 146480: Using properties of exponents to simplify-write with positive exponents.
x^3/7 - x^1/5 divided by x^-1/2
I have no clue where to start, but I thought I would start by trying to get a common denom of the exponents which I thought would be 35. I am lost!
Thanks so much!

Question 146575: Rationalize the denominator an simplify.
3 / sqrt (x) + 5
three divided by sqrt (x) plus five.
I started by mutiplying the demoninator of sqrt (x) + 5 to the numerator and the denominator. Next I distributed the numerator and squared the denominator. Not sure where to go after that. Thanks!

Question 146580: the radical sign over 3x + 2 =
i would think i would just square it to eliminate the radical sign and my answer would be 3x + 2 but i am not completely sure.......
in the Answer booklet it provides me 5 possible answers:
* will symbolize the radical sign
....................................
A. * over 3x and then +2
B. (*3)x + 2
C. 3x + *2

Question 146943: Please explain the steps for each example
Here's my first example:
(8/7) divided by (16/35)
= (8 / 7) * ( 35 / 16)
= (8 / 7) * ( 7 * 5 / 8 * 2)
= (== / ==) * ( ==* 5 / ==* 2)
= 5/2
Here's my second example:
(x - 8)/(x + 2) divided by (x^2 - 9x + 8)/(x^2 - 4)
= (x - 8) / (x + 2) * (x^2 - 4) / (x^2 - 9x + 8)
= (x - 8) / (x + 2) * (x - 2)(x + 2)/(x - 8)(x - 1)
= ( === ) / ( === ) * (x - 2)( === )/( === )(x - 1)
= (x - 2) / (x - 1)
what is similar between the two examples.
Thank you very much
