Question 113393: what am i doing wrong?
¼ = 3 – (2x-1)/(x+2)
¼ * 4(x+2) = 3 – {(2x-1)/(x+2)} *4(x+2)
x + 2 = 3 – (2x – 1)4
x + 2 = 3 – (8x – 4)
x + 2 = 7 – 8x
x + 2 – 2 = 7 – 2 – 8x
x +8x = 7 – 8x +8x
9x = 7
9x/9 = 7/9
x = 7/9

: I need some help with this word problem. Word problems always stump me!!
Suppose that N=the square root of x plus 3 models the number of cases of an infection, in millions, of a disease x years from now. a)Approximately how many cases of the infection will there be 9 years from now? b)In approximately how many years will there be 5 million cases.
is this the equation? N=x^2(+3) if so, where does the 5 million figure in this ?

Question 113785This question is from textbook Blitzer
: C computes the cost inmillions of dollars of implementing a city recycling project when x percent of the citizens participate. C(x)=1.4x/(100-x)
Using this model, approx what is the cost if 60% of the citiznes participate?
this is what I have - is this correct? C=1.4 times 60 over 100-60, which would be 2.1 million.
I do not know how to write the formula for part b, which is to estimate the percentage of participation that can be expected if 4 million is spent on the project. Set up an equation and solve algebraically, rounding to the nearest whoel percent.This question is from textbook Blitzer
