Question 928828: Please help me to solve this radical expression and equations word problem:
Here is the question? Road safety. The formula s = k sqrt(d) relates the speed s in (mph) of a car and the distance d (in feet) of the skid when a driver hit the brakes. On wet pavement k = 3.24. How far will a car skid if it is going 55 mph? Round to the nearest foot.

Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
s = k * sqrt(d)
55 = 3.24 * sqrt(d)
sqrt(d) = 55 / 3.24 = 16.975308642
square both sides of =
d = 16.975308642^2 = 288.16110349 approx 288 feet
