Question 85791: Someone answered this but all they did was copy and paste my question as an answer, can someone else help?
Is (√x^2)= x an identity (true for all nonnegative values of x)?

Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is true ONLY for non-negative values of x. Therefore, it is not an identity, is it? An identity is true for ALL values of the variable. I suppose you could say that if you are considering ONLY non-negative values of x, then it is an identity. I guess it depends upon what you mean by "identity."
