Question 851483: sqrt(6)/4-sqrt6
(Square root 6 over 4 minus square root 6)
The only knowledge I have of how you would possibly solve this is by multiplying the problem by the conjugate of the denominator. Meaning it would be something like: sqrt(6)/4 - sqrt(6) * 4 + sqrt(6)/4 + sqrt(6). The only thing I know about the final answer is the denominator would be 5. I'm not too sure where to go from there. Help would be HIGHLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
sqrt(6)/(4-sqrt6)
------
Multiply numerator and denominator by 4+sqrt(6) to get:
-----
[sqrt(6)(4+sqrt(6))]/[(4-sqrt(6))(4+sqrt(6)]
-------
= (6+4sqrt(6))/(16-6)
-------
= [2(3+2sqrt(6)]/10
------
= (3+2sqrt(6))/5
---------------------
