I know this probably isn't much help but I'm going to explain it as best as I can.

1.) Depending on how you enter the equation into your calculator it can effect the answer.

I used the following:



and got 0 as my answer.


***However, when I used parenthesis like this:



I got -14

2.) If we were to do the calculations just one by one this is what I would do.













= -14

3.) As you can see I got -14 too. Perhaps the book has a typo...

If the answer is 0, then the problem is: , as opposed to: . Do you see the difference?
You need to state the problem correctly, WITH PARENTHESES.
