Let's group the terms so it will be easier for us to look at when we factor: 5x^2 + 5x - 2xy - 2y
How do we get 5x^2? It must be 5x(x).
(5x )(x )
How do we get -2y in two empty spaces? It must be either (-2y)(1) or (2y)(-1). In this case, it is (-2y)(1) because we have - 2xy.
(5x - 2y)(x + 1)
