Question 656517: I'm to use properties of rational exponents to simplify the expression, and assume all variables represent positive numbers.
(2x^1/5)^5
I got 2x^(1/5)(5/1)
I cancelled out the 5s and was left with just 2x, however, the book says it should be 32x. I know 2^5 is 32, but how would I raise it to the 5th power if I cancelled it out?

Answer by jsmallt9(3758)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Your error is in the first step. The correct first step is to use the rule:

Now you have the 32 and the 5's that cancel.
