Hi,
|Multiplying thru by 12 so as all denominators = 1
8y - 9 = 5

(2y)/(3)-(3)/(4)=(5)/(12) FIND THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR.(12)
[4*2Y-3*3]/12=5/12
[8Y-9]/12=5/12 CANCEL THE LIKE DENOMINATORS.
8Y-9=5
8Y=5+9
8Y=14
Y=14/8
Y=7/4 ANS.
PROOF:
(2*7/4)/3-(3)/(4)=(5)/(12)
(14/4)/3-3/4=5/12 INVERT THE (/3) & MULTIPLY.
14/4*1/3-3/4=5/12
14/12-3/4=5/12 CHANGE 3/4 TO 9/12
14/12-9/12=5/12
5/12=5/12
