Question 630255: This is so confusing I simply do not understand.
1. Many people know that the weight of an object varies on different planets, but did you know that the weight of an object on Earth also varies according to the elevation of the object? In particular, the weight of an object follows this equation:w=Cr^-2 , where C is a constant, and r is the distance that the object is from the center of Earth.
Part 1a.Solve the equation for r.
Part 1b.Suppose that an object is 200 pounds when it is at sea level. Find the value of C that makes the equation true. (Sea level is 3,963 miles from the center of the Earth.)
Part 1c. Use the value of C you found in the previous question to determine how much the object would weigh in
i.Dead Sea, Jordon, Israel (1,388 feet below sea level, the lowest level in the world).
ii.Wenzhuan, China (16,730 feet above sea level, the highest city in the world)

Hi,
w=Cr^-2 , where C is a constant, and r is the distance that the object is from the center of Earth.
Part 1a:
Part 1b: = 3,141,073,800
Part 1c:
i.Fine w when r = 1,388
w = = 1630.4189
ii. i.Fine w when r = 16730 + 3963 = 20,693ft from center of earth
w =
