sqrt%28x%5E2-3x-1%29-3%2B3=0%2B3
sqrt%28x%5E2-3x-1%29=3 Square each side of the equation to remove the square root sign
x%5E2-3x-1=9 Subtract 9 from each side of the equation
x%5E2-3x-1-9=9-9
x%5E2-3x-10=0 Factorise
%28x-5%29%28x%2B2%29=0 ie x = 5 or x = -2
