Add 3 to each side

Square each side of the equation to remove the square root sign
Subtract 9 from each side of the equation

Factorise
ie x = 5 or x = -2

x-5+5=0+5 and x+2-2=0-2
x=5 and x=-2
Check both those solutions to make sure they are not extraneous.
