Question 617209: I think I need help to make sure I am doing this right. It says to solve:
2x^2 + 5 = 105
I subtracted 5 from each side for 2x^2 = 100
Divided by 2 on each side for x^2 = 50
I think I can use the principle of square roots here to arrive at x = square root (50)
I further break down the square root (50) to square root (25) X square root (2)
My final answer then becomes 5 square root (2)
Am I anywhere close?

I think I need help to make sure I am doing this right. It says to solve:

2x² + 5 = 105

    2x² = 100

     x² = 50
            __
      x = ±Ö50
            ____
      x = ±Ö25·2
            __  _
      x = ±Ö25·Ö2
             _
      x = ±5Ö2

Your only error was forgetting the ± (positive or negative) when
using the principle of square roots.
