Square both sides in order to get rid of the square root:
Simplify: x + 3 = 25
Subtract 3 from both sides: x = 22
CHECK SOLUTION (VITAL for these types of problems):
5 = -5
This is FALSE (technically, could be seen as -5, but commonly--in order to avoid confusion--this square root is used to denote the positive square root, and would be used to denote -5).
Therefore, there is NO SOLUTION to this problem.
