To solve this problem, consider the northern leg of the trip as one leg of a right triangle 35 Km long. The eastern leg can be considered as the perpendicular leg of the right triangle 65 Km long.
You are asked to find the straight-line distance from the starting point which, in reality, forms the hypotenuse of this right triangle. You can use the Pythagorean theorem where a = 35 Km and b = 65 Km and c is the straight-line distance from the starting point.

Take the square root of both sides and use only the positive result.
