Is the equation
or
?
Please put parentheses around radicands when you post problems with radicals so we can tell what is inside the radical and what is outside. (The expression within a radical is called a radicand.)
Without knowing what your equation is I can't be of much help. But here are some suggestions:- If the negative in front of the square root bothers you, then multiply both sides of the equation by -1. This will put a "+" in front of the square root.
- In a solution I provided to another similar but slightly more difficult problem I spelled out a procedure for solving equations like this. Perhaps looking at the procedure and how it was used to solve the other problem would help you with your problem. Click here to see this solution.
