Question 395654: What is the solution set of the equation ?
[Show work.]
Answer by jrfrunner(365) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
square both sides
x+1=(x-1)^2=x^2-2x+1
0=x^2-3x=x(x-3)
x=0 or x=3
--
validate by checking each value on orginal equation
x=0:
1=-1 this is not true so x=0 is not a solution
-
x=3
2=3-1=2 check
-
so x=3 is the solution
