: These probably seem pretty simple, but I'm sorry, I still need help. A little explanation helps me greatly. I appreciate your help and time.
1)Is square root x squared =x an identity (true for all values of x)?
2) For the equation x-square root x=0, perform the following: a) solve for all values of x that satisfies the equation. b) Graph the functions y=x and y=square root x on the same graph (by plotting points if necessary). Show the points of intersection of these two graphs. c) How does the graph relate to part a?

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) No. sqrt(-3)^2 = sqrt(9)=3
2) x-sqrt x = 0
x = sqrtx
Square both sides to get:
x^2=x
x^2-x=0
x(x-1)=0
x=0 or x=1
Check the solutions in the original equation
Checking x=0: 0-sqrt0=0 OK
Checking x=1: 1-sqrt1=0 OK
3) I'll leave this to you to graph.
Cheers,
Stan H.
