Solve 1/x + 1/(x+5) = 3/4
-----------
lcm = 4x(x+5)
Multiply thru by the lcm to get:
4(x+5) + 4x = 3(x(x+5))
4x+20 + 4x = 3x^2 + 15x
3x^2 + 7x - 20 = 0
3x^2 + 12x - 5x - 20 = 0
3x(x+4)-5(x+4) = 0
(x+4)(3x-5) = 0
x = -4 or x = 5/3
