Suppose that an object is 100 pounds when it is at sea level. Find the value of C that makes the equation w=Cr^-2 true. (Sea level is 3,963 miles from the center of the earth)
:
= w
Replace w with 100 and r = 3963
= 100
the reciprocal gets rid of the neg exponent
= 100
C = 3963^2 * 100
:
C = 157053369 * 100
:
C = 15,705,336,900
:
:
Check this in a calc: enter: 15705336900 * 3963^-2 = 100
