Question 146480: Using properties of exponents to simplify-write with positive exponents.
x^3/7 - x^1/5 divided by x^-1/2
I have no clue where to start, but I thought I would start by trying to get a common denom of the exponents which I thought would be 35. I am lost!
Thanks so much!
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Using properties of exponents to simplify-write with positive exponents.
x^3/7 - x^1/5 divided by x^-1/2
----------------
x^-(1/2) is a common denominator to each of the numerator terms:
-------------
= [x^(3/7)/x^(-1/2)] - [x^(1/5)/x^(-1/2)]
Subtract the denominator exponents from the numerator exponents to get:
= x^(3/7 + 1/2) - x^(1/5 + 1/2)
= x^(13/6) - x^(7/10)
