Question 122339: The volume of a cube is given by V = s3, where s is the length of a side. Find the length of a side of a cube if the volume is 800 cm3. Round the answer to three decimal places.
I took 3square root of 800 and the solution I came up with was
266.66?

I don't quite understand how you arrived at your answer of 266.66 as the cuberoot of 800.
The volume of a cube with side s, is given by:
V+=+s%5E3
s%5E3+=+800 Take the cuberoot of both sides:
s+=+9.283 cm.
Check:
V+=+s%5E3
V+=+%289.283%29%5E3
V+=+799.954 cu.cm

I'm not sure what you meant by '3square root of 800' but your answer, which is
actually 800%2F3, is incorrect.

Since V=s%5E3, s=root%283%2CV%29 or in this case, s=root%283%2C800%29

Just to give a sense of proportion, consider the product 9%2A9%2A9=729 and
the product 10%2A10%2A10=1000. Since 729%3C800%3C1000, we know that
root%283%2C729%29%3Croot%283%2C800%29%3Croot%283%2C1000%29 which is to say 9%3Croot%283%2C800%29%3C10 -- putting it into words,
the cube root of 800 is somewhere between 9 and 10.

Using the Windows calculator, I get root%283%2C800%29=+9.28317 (plus a bunch
more digits that are meaningless) which rounds to 9.283.
