Question 1178964: Consider a square, S i, with a side length of x feet. if one side is increased in length by 3 feet and another side is decreased by 3 feet, the resulting rectangle, r, will have an area of 16 square feet.
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the area of the rectangle will be (x+3)(x-3)=x^2-9 ft^2
that equals 16 ft^2
so x^2-9=16
x^2=25
xor S i=5 feet, only positive root. That is the answer.
s=5 with area of square 25^2
the rectangle is 8 ft x 2 ft with area 16 ft^2.
