Question 80185: what are the steps to graphing 3y squared - x squared = 25?
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
what are the steps to graphing 3y squared - x squared = 25
---------
It is a hyperbola: [y^2/(25/3)] - [x^2/25] = 1
---------
if x=0, y=+5/sqrt3 and y=-5/sqrt3
Plot those points on the y axis.
-------
If y=0, x^2=-25.
so there are no x intercepts.
That means the hyperbola opens up and down but not left and right.
------------
To get another point, let x=5:
Then y^2/(25/3) - 1=1
y^2/(25/3)=2
y^2=50/3
y=+5sqrt(2/3) and y=-5sqrt(2/3)
Plot those points.
----------
With those points you should be able to sketch the hyperbola.
