(x-1)(x+5)+(y+1)(y+5)=3
x^2+4x-5 + y^2 + 6y +5 = 3
x^2+4x + ? + y^2+6y + ?? = 3
x^2+4x+4 + y^2+6y+9 = 3+4+9
(x+2)^2 + (y+3)^2 = 16
center is (-2,-3)
radius is 4

(x+1)(x-5)+8(y-5)=-17
x^2 -4x -5 + 8(y-5) = -17
x^2-4x+4 -5 +8(y-5) = -17 + 4
(x-2)^2 +8(y-5) = -8
(x-2)^2 = -8[(y-5)+1]
(x-2)^2 = -8(y-4)
