Write an equation for each parabola described below. Then draw the graph.

focus (5, 5/4)

Plot the vertex and the focus.
Note that the focus is above the vertex so
the parabola opens up.
Form: (x-h)^2 = 4p(y-k)
p is the distance from the vertex to the focus:
p = 5/4 - 1 = 1/4

(x-5)^2 = 4(1/4)(y-1)
y-1 = (x-5)^2
y = (x-5)^2 + 1
