Question 750177: I need a little bit of help of these homework questions. You don't have to answer all of them, but I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much! :) I also have a tutoring session today for some help with my teacher, but I'd like to know how to do these before then. I have looked on the internet and in my book, and I just don't know how to do these.
1. For a hyperbola with the equation: xy=12, find the
a. foci
b. asymptotes
c. the focal constant
2. An ellipse with the X intercepts of: (-7,0) and (7,0) and with the Y intercepts of: (0,4) and (0,-4), find an equation for a line that intersects the ellipse at
a. zero points
b. one point
c. two points
3. For the hyperbola with the equation: x^2/36 - y^2/16 = 1, the two x intercepts are: (-6,0) and (6,0)
Find an equation for a circle that intersects the hyperbola at
a. zero points.
b. four points.

2. An ellipse with the X intercepts of: (-7,0) and (7,0) and with the Y intercepts of: (0,4) and (0,-4), find an equation for a line that intersects the ellipse at
a. zero points
eg, y = 5, x = 8, etc
--------------
b. one point
y = 4, x = 7, etc
-----------------
c. two points
x-axis, y-axis, y = 1, x = 2, etc

3. For the hyperbola with the equation: x^2/36 - y^2/16 = 1, the two x intercepts are: (-6,0) and (6,0)
Find an equation for a circle that intersects the hyperbola at
a. zero points.
Any circle centered at the Origin with a radius less than 6 --> 0 points
eg, x^2 + y^2 = 25
------------
b. four points.
Any circle centered at the Origin with a radius greater than 6 --> 4 points
eg, x^2 + y^2 = 49
-----------
c. three points
--------------
eg, a circle on the x-axis not centered at the Origin tangent to one side and intersecting in 2 points on the other side.
eg, (x+1)^2 + y^2 = 49
