Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
parabola with vertex at (-3,1) and directrix x=-8
--------
Distance from (-3,1) to x=-8 = -3--8=5
Therefore p=5
--------
Plot the vertex and the directrix and you will see the
parabola opens to the right:
So the form is (y-k)^2=4p(x-h)
EQUATION:
(y-1)^2 = 4*5(x+4)
(y-1)^2= 20x+80
x = (1/20)(y-1)^2-4
