Question 729180: I am unsure of how to do the following:
"An ellipse with one vertex (8,7) and foci at (6,7) and (0,7)"
and
"An ellipse with center (0,2) focus (0,8) whose minor axis is 18 units long"

Answer by josgarithmetic(39620)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can find the center point of the ellipse using the midpoint of the two foci. Get the size of "a", length of major semiaxis as the distance from the one given vertex to the center point of the ellipse. NOW you know a and c. From them, you can find b. a^2=b^2+c^2. Solve for b and find its value.

You are now ready to fill in the information into the standard form equation for an ellipse.

[From the given foci, c=3.]
