Your error was when you only added 9 to compensate for the 9 you added INSIDE the parentheses containing the 
terms. There is that little factor of 4 outside of those parentheses, so you needed to add 36 to the RHS
\ +\ 4(y^2\ -\ 6y\ +\ 9)\ = \ -35\ +\ 3\ +\ 36\ =\ 4)
^2}{\frac{4}{3}}\ +\ \frac{(y\ -\ 3)^2}{1}\ =\ 1)
