Example question: Solve 3 linear equation and graph.

5x + 6y = 14

     6y = -5x + 14

      y = x +

      y = x +

compare to

      y = mx + b

The slope m =

The y-intercept (0,b) is (0,)

To graph the line get a couple or three points.

Let x=1               Let x=4             Let x=-2

  5x + 6y = 14        5x + 6y = 14        5x + 6y = 14
5(1) + 6y = 14      5(4) + 6y = 14     5(-2) + 6y = 14
   5 + 6y = 14        20 + 6y = 14       -10 + 6y = 14
       6y = 9              6y = -6             6y = 24
        y = 1.5             y = -1              y = 4
   point(1,1.5)        point(4,-1)          point(-2,4)

Plot those three points:

Draw a line through those three points:

-----
-3y + x = 7 Do as above, solve for y to find the slope.

Find three points by substituting x = -2, 1, and 4

-----
-x + y = 1 Do as above, solve for y to find the slope.

Find three points by substituting x = -4, 0, and 3
