Every time the y value is increasing by 1, then 3, then 5, then 7, then 9, and so on. Please explain this!

y = x^2 -2x -3       | y = ax^2 + bx + c  and 

y =   |completing the Square to find Vertex form

y = (x-1)^2 - 4 ,    

, the vertex form of a parabola,  where(h,k) is the vertex

The pattern You are seeing is the result of the (x-1)^2 pattern

x   (x-1)^2	y

1	0	-4

2	1	-3

3	4	0

4	9	5

5	16	12
