how do u solve this problem?
Rewrite in h,k form and state values
x^2-2x-8y+33=0
8y=x^2-2x+33
complete the square
8y=(x^2-2x+1)+33-1
8y=(x-1)^2+32
divide by 8
y=(1/8)(x-1)^2+4
This is an equation for a parabola of standard form: y=A(x-h)^2+k, with (h,k) being the (x,y) coordinates of the vertex.
For given equation:
A=(1/8)
vertex: (1,4)
axis of symmetry: x=1 (parabola opens upwards, minimum of 4 at x=1)
plug in a couple of x-values on either side of the axis of symmetry and you will have the information you need to graph given parabola.
