How do u do 9x(squared) + 4y(sqaured)=36? Its either a parabola, circle, ellipse, or hyperbola?
9x^2+4y^2=36
divide by 36
x^2/4+y^2/9=1
This is an equation of an ellipse with vertical major axis of standard form:
(x-h)^2/b^2+(y-k)^2/a^2=1, a>b, (h,k) being the (x,y) coordinates of the center
For given equation:
Center: (0,0)
a^2=9
a=3
length of vertical major axis=2a=6
vertices: (0,0±a)=(0,0±3)=(0,3) and (0,-3) (end points of major axis)
..
b^2=4
b=2
length of minor axis=2b=4
..
Foci:
c^2=a^2-b^2=9-4=5
c=√5
Foci: (0,0±c)=(0,0±√5)=(0,√5) and (0,-√5)
