Question 410594: Solve by completing the square
m^2-1/2m=7/2
Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
m^2-1/2m=7/2
b is -1/2
take half and square it to give you 1/16
add to both sides:
m^2-1/2m + 1/16 = 7/2 + 1/16
m^2-1/2m + 1/16 = 56/16 + 1/16
m^2-1/2m + 1/16 = 57/16
(m - 1/4)^2 = 57/16
take the square root of both sides:
m - 1/4 = sqrt(57/16)
m - 1/4 = sqrt(57)/4
m = sqrt(57)/4 + 1/4
m = (1 + sqrt(57))/4
