Let x = 0,then solve for "Y":
(y+1)^2 = 2
y+1 = +sqrt(2) or y+1 = -sqrt(2)
---
y = -1+sqrt(2) or y = -1-sqrt(2)
----
Those are the y-intercepts of the parabola.

OR y = ± sqrt(x+2) - 1

y-intercepts are when x= 0








y = -2.414
y = .414
