Hello,
I'm assuming the 2 after the parenthesis is to the second power or written as:
y = 2(x - 1)^2 - 5
This can be rewritten as:
y=2x^2-4x-3
It opens upward.
(Hint: If the x^2 is positive then "up", if it's negative then it opens down.
