this is the intersection of a line and a parabola

substituting ___ x^2 - 5 = x - 3

subtracting x-3 ___ x^2 - x - 2 = 0

factoring ___ (x+1)(x-2) = 0 ___ x = -1 ___ and ___ x = 2

substituting into y=x-3 ___ when x=-1, y=-4 ___ when x=2, y=-1

the points of intersection are (-1,-4) and (2,-1)
