Question 198155: identify and graph 2 2
4(x+1) +9(y-1) =36
I know its an ellipse but i cant graph it out right.

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4(x+1)^2 + 9(y-1)^2 = 36
----
Convert to standard form:
[(x+1)^2]/9 + [(y-1)^2]/4 = 1
---------------------
Do you see that the center is at (-1,1) ?
----
Do you see that the semi-major axis is sqrt(9) = 3
so the right-most vertex is at (2,1) and the left-most
vertex is at (-4,1) ?
-----
Do you see that the semi-minor axis is sqrt(4) = 2
so the top vertex is at (-1,3) and the bottom vertex
is at (-1,-1) ?
=======================
If you see all that, you can sketch the ellipse.
