What's most likely happening is your window is only allowing you to look at only a piece/branch of the curve.


Try this window and you should be able to get a better look
X-min: -12
X-max: 12
Y-min: -10
Y-max: 10

This equation has 4 roots, so it crosses the x-axis 4 times if
they are all real roots, Here is the graph

Looking at the plot, there are 2 x-axis crossings, so there are 2 real roots
and 2 imaginary roots
